Oophoropexy prior to pelvic irradiation

While previously commonly performed prior to pelvic irradiation, transposition of the ovaries high in the pelvis is not demonstrated to substantially preserve ovarian function and spontaneous fertility. The risks and benefits should be discussed with the surgeon, radiation oncologist and fertility specialist in order to make the most informed decision in each individual situation.
